Every now and then, when traveling to South Kalimantan, try to look at the traditional markets.

There are many Banjar culinary delights sold there, from foods such as side dishes, vegetables to snacks such as traditional cakes.

At the Sunday Market, Jalan Ahmad Yani Km 7, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan, there are several sellers of traditional Banjar pastries.

They sell a variety of local specialties, including kakicak. Kakicak is a traditional Banjar cake in the shape of a round, as small as a Rp. 500 coin.

The color is light green and dark green. The texture is chewy and made from flour which is given water and natural dyes from pandan leaves.

How to cook it by steaming in a pot that has been filled with boiling water. One seller is Mama Ida.

He sells kakicak every day at the market. "I sold 10 seeds for Rp.5,000," he explained.

Kakicak, according to him, is the food of the Banjar people since maritime times. In the past, based on a story he had heard, kakicak was the food of the Banjar kings. "Usually it is always made in offerings during the implementation of traditional rituals," he said.

This kakicak is now a popular snack market. Because the material is made of chalk, which parents used to roast, this kakicak can last up to three days.

The Banjar people usually eat it with grated coconut mixed with brown sugar, usually called hinti. It's sweet and chewy.
